When Windows won’t talk to your CD/DVD drive

cddvdrepair-screen1A while back I got a nice new shiny desktop computer, but one day, Windows decided it no longer wanted to ‘play nice’ with the DVD drive.

The system said that the latest drivers were installed, but the drive didn’t appear in the Control Panel and it wouldn’t read any CDs or DVDs.

So, I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the latest driver from the manufacturer’s Web site  just to make sure, but still no joy.

I was just about tearing my hair out — thank God I have a laptop I could test software with and do my work on while the desktop drive was out of action —  and more than a few expletives were uttered in the direction of the recalcitrant PC.

I was just about to do a total Windows reinstall when I read online about a free application that suggested it might be able to remedy my problem. However, I have to say that I wasn’t holding my breath!

What the heck, I had nothing to lose at this point, and I wasn’t relishing the prospect of reinstalling all my programs again after a Windows refresh. So, I downloaded it and gave it a try and . . . success!!!!! It’s all working like a charm.

If you ever find yourself in the same situation, head to the Rizone Technologies site and download its CD-DVD Repair utility — it’s only a 371K file.
