Still more free documentaries
Earlier this year, I looked at a couple of sites that allow you to watch documentaries online for free — Docu-View and Documentary Heaven.
If you like to watch documentaries and these sites have made it to your Favorites folder, as they have mine, here is another one to add to your list: freedocumentaries.org
You’ll find almost 150 documentaries on this site, most of which deal with politics and social commentary, and you’ll recognise many of the titles, including Sicko by Michael Moore, Supersize Me and The Road to Guantanamo.
You can search for docos by a range of criteria including title, topic, language, region, and closed captions.
The site’s credo is “the truth is free” and aims to educate visitors, “whether it’s a new perspective on a topic, simply understanding a conflict, or being more accepting of a certain belief system”. Those responsible for the documentaries have given permission for their films to be streamed for free from the site to raise public awareness of the issues canvased in their works.
With all your favourite TV shows on hiatus for the holiday season, this site and the previous two free documentary sites above may just fill the entertainment void — and you just might learn something in the process.
