Take a 3D tour of Pompeii
A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to visit the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii and had the truly awesome experience of walking its streets.
Today, I discovered that Google Maps Street View now gives everyone the opportunity to experience a little of the same magic by taking an armchair tour in 3D via their PC — OK, it’s not quite the same as the real thing, but if you can’t be there in the flesh, it’s a pretty darn good alternative.
The addition of the Pompeii ruins to Google Maps Street View will not only give past visitors to the ruins a welcome reminder of their experience there, but no doubt inspire future travellers to make the pilgrimage. It will also prove an invaluable study resource for teachers and students of ancient history.
