The miracle that is bicarbonate of soda

Baking SodaBicarbonate of soda rocks! And that’s official as far as I’m concerned.

After trying every cleaning lotion and potion on the supermarket shelf in an attempt to rejuvenate my bathroom vanity basin back to its former glory after years of wear and tear, who’d have though the solution to my cleaning problem was lurking all the while in the baking goods section?

I’ll confess to being a bit of a greenie, taking recycling to the status of a religion in my house, and I’m always keen to find a less toxic solution to any problem where possible. So, I decided to trawl the Net for a eco-friendly solution to my cleaning dilemma.

That’s where I came across the Baking Soda Book by TipKing, which you can read online here for free. You’ll find a gazillion uses for bicarbonate of soda (or ‘baking soda’ as it’s also known) in the book, from deodourising your kitty litter to soothing suburn.

After trying the cleaning tips, I’m officially a convert. My vanity basin is now gleaming, it only cost me a few cents to do the job, and I’ve done my little bit for the planet. Now all I need to do is find where they sell it in 44-gallon drums!

Give it a go!

  1. Alex Kidman says:

The combination of Baking Soda and Vinegar (not necc. combined, but used appropriately) covers about 99% of most household cleaning needs… and for cents, rather than dollars.

The other 1% can generally be covered by the words “Insurance Fire”.
