SanDisk’s new super-fast memory card
If you’re a digital SLR snapper or video enthusiast with the need for speed, your life may have just got easier with the release of SanDisk’s new Extreme Pro CompactFlash Card.
The new card has read and write speeds of up to 90M per second, which sets a new benchmark for speed in the market. To translate these speeds into practical terms, in a real-world demo of the card, taking a burst of 15 shots in RAW mode on a digital SLR camera took just 11 seconds as opposed to 35 seconds performing the same test using SanDisk’s Ultra II CF card.
While the difference in speed won’t mean much to the happy snappers, if you need to capture action shots such as sport images, it can mean the difference between getting the money shot and disappointment.
The card also features new writing technology which, in simple terms, makes it more reliable and less susceptible to wear by depositing new data onto the empty card in different sectors each time, rather than just dumping data onto the same beginning sectors each time the card is reused.
The Extreme Pro also tolerates more extreme heat and humidity and features added silicon in its construction to increase its ability to withstand accidental dropping.
The cards are available in 16G, 32G and 64G capacities.
